The Puzzle

By Quinn Kingston
Life is like a puzzle.
I am constantly flipping over the pieces,
To see what’s on the colorful side of each piece.

Even then, I get confused.
Where does this puzzle piece go, in my life?

Living day by day, and hour by hour,
I flip over another piece of my mortal being.
Not knowing or aware of what’s to come.

With each piece that comes together,
I try and make this a beautiful picture.

On Monday, I Fell in Love with You

By Quinn Kingston

There’s a world outside I want to see.

There’s a soldier, a hero, I want to be.

You asked me again, being so sincere,

Last Monday night, when you were here,

What do I really want to do

You know, I would love to stay here with you.

Among the romance between us two,

On Monday night, I fell in love with you.

To not recognize, the benefits that will accrue

Please tell me, do you believe it’s true?

Looking into the alluring sky so blue,

On Monday, I fell in love with you.

Roadside Flowers

Quinn Kingston

Time seems to fly on by when you are collecting flowers. Some people look at the roadside flowers and think about them like weeds. There are so many with all the different colors. The sunflowers grow naturally wherever they decide. Baby’s breath, the little white flowers people use in their wedding bouquets, smell awful to me, but people surely love them.

I used to enjoy pulling over on a rocky curb and cut down all the colorful plants to bring home. I enjoyed the scents they brought into every room. I’ve been picking flowers for too long, regretfully.

Now I know what is truly beautiful is to leave them be. Just how they are, they shouldn’t be picked. I do still stop and admire them, I smell them and leave them alone. It really brings me peace letting them continue to live on without my disturbance. After a flower is cut down or picked it does not live long. Even in a vase with ice, and sugar water. Flowers can only live 5-8 days before we have to throw them away, but if we leave the flowers alone, we can still enjoy their beauty and they can continue living naturally all season.

I will visit these roadside flowers regularly. Whenever I am having a day. I regret ever killing them just to keep them to myself. I am very grateful to pass by every spring watching them grow.
